English is now a global language. English has been in use in India since
colonial rule. But, in a recent study the
National Knowledge Mission observes
that not more than 1% of Indians ‘uses’
English as a second language. India will
need more people speaking English if the
present rate of her economic growth were
to sustain. Besides, there is a surge in the
demand for English speaking professionals
the world over, due to rapidly globalizing
economies and multi national investments.
A huge shortage of quality teachers and lack of attention to establish
standard institutions are hampering the
ability of the Indians to acquire English
skills at a rapid pace. A study by the British
Council says that China may now have
more English speaking people than in
India. English language skills of the Indian
population need to grow at a rapid pace to
make India stay ahead of the competing
countries.
Spellbrain India, a Private Limited Company has been set up to address
this issue systematically, empower
Indians, and make a significant contribution.
